Adding a set of SPD clip-in pedals is probably the single biggest improvement you can make to your bike and to your cycling. All Shimano SPD pedals feature adjustable cleat tension, which means you can make them very easy to get in and out of, or dial up the tension to ensure your feet stay firmly attached even when launching over a drop-off out on the trail.

Who is this product for? Essentially the PD-M545 pedals are the same as the basic PD-M520, but with a sturdy aluminium cage, so they're a great choice for the first-time SPD clip-in pedal user. You would probably be riding bike paths, starting to do some off-road riding, or you want a compact dual sided pedal for your tourer or gravel bike. With the aluminium cage these pedals are suitable to ride short distances in ordinary shoes, handy if you want to quickly jump on your bike to ride down to the shops. The cages also helps hold your feet in place if you unclip to ride a tricky section of trail.

The Bicycle Depot Technical Top Tip: When fitting pedals, don't forget that the left and right pedals are different and are usually marked with an 'L' and an 'R' respectively, or with a line or 'knurling' on the spindle of the left pedal. The left pedal has a left-hand thread and tightens & loosens in the opposite direction to the right pedal. So the left pedal loosens in the clockwise direction, and tightens in an anti-clockwise direction! If unsure, STOP! and seek assistance.
